VarientView
VariantView enables scientists to interpret the functional impact of DNA sequence variations on the corresponding protein sequence. Compared to standard visuals used in scientific literature, which resemble bar charts, VariantView emphasizes hotspots by horizontally stacking related variations into visually salient fan-like structures.
My contributions included:
-
Academic supervision: Co-supervised UBC student Joel Ferstay together with Tamara Munzner and VariantView was his Master's thesis project.
-
Concept: Facilitated collaboration with researchers at the Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre and helped define the objectives of the project.
-
Visualization design: Provided guidance and advice throughout the design process.
Details of the design, methods, and applications are published in our IEEE VIS paper.
